چکیده

There is a growing need for applications that are able to adapt themselves to the context of use. One promising approach for the adaptation of an application during its execution is the use of models at runtime. In this approach models of the application and its context of use are kept alive during the execution. The application can be adapted by recon guring the structure of these models. Model Recon guration has local aspects as it handles the structure of a model and has to deal with its speci c properties. It also possesses global aspects, as the joint recon guration of several models is required due to consistency considerations. This paper aims at solving possible con icts between the global and the local aspects of Model Recon guration by introducing a distinction between two Levels of abstraction that enables the designer to separate and interrelate global and local aspects of Model Recon guration.

Dynamic Node Recon guration in a Parallel-Distributed Environment

Idle workstations in a network represent a signi cant computing potential. In particular, their processing power can be used by parallel-distributed programs that treat the network as a loosely-coupled multiprocessor. But the set of machines free to participate in load sharing changes over time as users come and go from their workstations. To make full use of the available resources, parallel-d...

Dynamic reconfiguration of node location in wormhole networks

Several techniques have been developed to increase the performance of parallel computers. Recon®gurable networks can be used as an alternative to increase the performance. Network recon®guration can be carried out in di€erent ways. Our research has focused on distributed memory systems with dynamic recon®guration of node location. Brie ̄y, this technique consists of positioning the processors in...

Con guration Sequencing with Self Con gurable Binary Multipliers

In this paper we present a hardware design technique which utilises runtime recon guration for a particular class of applications. For a multiplication circuit implemented within an FPGA, a speci c instance of multiplying by a constant provides a signi cant reduction of required logic when compared to the generic case when multiplying any two arbitrary values. The use of recon guration allows t...

Proteus: an Ecient Runtime Recon®gurable Distributed Shared Memory System

This paper describes Proteus, a distributed shared memory (DSM) system which supports runtime node recon®guration. Proteus allows users to change the node set during the execution of a DSM program. The capability of node addition allows users to further shorten the execution time of their DSM programs by dynamically adding newly available nodes to the system. Furthermore, competition for resour...

Gracefully Degrading Systems Using the Bulk-Synchronous Parallel Model with Randomised Shared Memory

The Bulk-Synchronous Parallel Model, BSPM, was proposed as a bridging model for parallel computation by Valiant. By using Randomised Shared Memory, RSM, this model o ers an asymptotically optimal emulation of the PRAM[1]. By using the BSPM with RSM, we show how a gracefully degrading massively parallel system can be obtained through: memory duplication to ensure global memory integrity, and to ...
